Estimados Afiliados y Afiliadas Maryknoll

El Capítulo Guatemala de Afiliados Maryknoll, como anfitriones de la Conferencia de Afiliados Maryknoll 2017, por sus siglas en inglés conocida como MAC 2017, los y las invitamos cordialmente a este encuentro que tendrá lugar del 9 al 12 de noviembre de 2017, en la Casa de Retiros Verbo Encarnado, Guatemala, Centroamérica (www.verboencarnado.com.gt).

Desde 1993, al celebrarse la primera conferencia en Chicago, Estados Unidos,  el Movimiento de Afiliados Maryknoll, se ha reunido cada tres años en Estados Unidos, para comentar el pasado, presente y futuro de los y las Afiliados/las Afiliadas Maryknoll y celebrar eventos significativos de la Familia Maryknoll.   Aunque la cuna de las conferencias había sido Estados Unidos, el 28 de marzo de 2015, recibimos la buena noticia del Consejo de Afiliados Maryknoll que analizaron la propuesta que el Capítulo Guatemala presentó en MAC 2014 y valoraron que era el momento para realizar la conferencia fuera de Estados Unidos; en esta oportunidad en Guatemala.

El tema inspirador de la Asamblea MAC 2017 es el BUEN VIVIR, el cual es una invitación a entrar en sintonía con los pueblos andinos y la gran mayoría de los pueblos originarios del mundo, para que al igual que ellos, iniciemos una búsqueda de nuevos caminos para la humanidad. El BUEN VIVIR tiene mucho que enseñarnos: aprender a escucharnos, a pensar y caminar juntos buscando la armonía y equidad para el bien – estar de las personas, la comunidad, la Madre Naturaleza y el Cosmos.  La profundización en este tema lo realizaremos desde intercambios y celebraciones llenas de afecto y cariño.

MAC 2017, será un evento muy especial en la historia de este movimiento ya que también será el momento para que juntos y juntas celebraremos el 25 Aniversario de Afiliados Maryknoll.  Será una oportunidad para agradecer a los abuelos y abuelas que originaron esta expresión de Maryknoll así como cada uno de los Capítulos de Afiliados y reconocer nuestro ser desde los cuatro pilares que nos definen y nos dan identidad: espiritualidad, comunidad, visión global y acción, re afirmando así que la presencia de Dios nos invita a vivir una vida plena que prioriza el ser solidario con los pobres, los oprimidos y excluidos.

A través de los boletines Not So Far Afield (NSFA) y No Tan Lejos del Horizonte (NTLH), la página oficial de los Afiliados Maryknoll (www.maryknollaffiliates.org), el blog de la Conferencia (www.mac2017guatemala.blogspot.com) y el Facebook del Capítulo Guatemala Afiliados Maryknoll se brindará información y se darán a conocer las especificaciones de MAC 2017. Al registrarse como participante de la Conferencia se les enviaría vía correo electrónico más detalles sobre la misma. Anticipamos con esperanza que esta conferencia será una oportunidad para que desde un diálogo respetuoso, busquemos espacios que nos ayuden a crear lazos sólidos como una sola FAMILIA, que quiere fortalecer UNA MISIÓN a través del mensaje del amor de Dios, a soñar y actuar desde alternativas nuevas que hasta el momento parecían imposibles de realizar.

Dear Maryknoll Lay Missioners

As the hosts of MAC 2017, we, the Guatemala Maryknoll Affiliates Chapter, cordially invite you to the gathering that will take place from November 9-12, 2017 in the Verbo Encarnado Retreat Center in Guatemala, Central America (www.verboencarnado.com.gt).

Since 1993, on celebrating the first gathering in Chicago, USA, the Maryknoll Affiliates movement has met every two to three years in the United States to comment on the past, present, and future of the Maryknoll Affiliates and to celebrate significant events of the Maryknoll family. Although the home of the gatherings has been the United States, on March 28, 2015, we received the good news from the Maryknoll Affiliates Board that the proposal that the Guatemala Chapter presented at MAC 2014 had been considered and evaluated with the subsequent decision that now is the moment to hold the gathering outside of the United States, specifically in Guatemala, in this case.

The inspirational theme of the MAC 2017 gathering is BUEN VIVIR, literally “good living.”  This consists of an invitation to enter into harmony with the Andean peoples and great majority of indigenous peoples of the world so that we also may begin a search for new paths for humanity.  BUEN VIVIR has much to teach us: learning how to listen to one another, thinking and walking together, searching for harmony and equity for the well-being of all people, community, Mother Earth, and the Cosmos through a sharing and a celebration filled with warmth and affection.

In MAC 2017 we will celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Maryknoll Affiliates.  This will be a moment to thank the grandfathers and grandmothers who began each entity of Maryknoll and for the Affiliate chapters to recognize our existence, parting from the four pillars that define us and give us our identity:  spirituality, community, global vision, and action, thus reaffirming the presence of God who invites us to live a full life that prioritizes being in solidarity with the poor, the oppressed and excluded. 

The NSFA and NTLH bulletins, the Maryknoll Affiliates website (www.maryknollaffiliates.org), the MAC 2017 Blog (www.mac2017guatemala.blogspot.com), and the Maryknoll Affiliates Guatemala Chapter Facebook (Capítulo Guatemala Afiliados Maryknoll) will keep you informed and will make known the specifics of MAC 2017.  On registering as a participant in the gathering you will be sent more details via e-mail. 

We hopefully anticipate that this gathering will be an opportunity for respectful dialogue, that we will seek spaces that will help us create solid bonds as a single Maryknoll family that wants to strengthen mission through the love of God, to dream, and to act on the basis of new alternatives that at the moment seem impossible to achieve.

¿Por qué? ¿Para qué?

 OBJETIVO GENERAL DE LA CONFERENCIA

-Reunir a los Afiliados Maryknoll de los Capítulos  alrededor del mundo para discutir el pasado, presente y el futuro del rumbo de los Afiliados  Maryknoll.

-Colaborar ofreciendo aportes en la toma de decisiones que más adelante el Consejo de Afiliados Maryknoll procesara fuera de la Conferencia General.

FINES ESPECÍFICOS DE ESTA CONFERENCIA

1. Promover un sentido de unidad en la diversidad para encontrar formas eficaces y graduales que unan a las cuatro entidades Maryknoll en nuestra misión.

        a) Mayor unidad e intercambio de Espiritualidad Maryknoll.

        b) Ser inclusivo y procurar ampliar el círculo entre todas las entidades Maryknoll.

2. Celebrar el 25 Aniversario de los Afiliados Maryknoll

        a) Compartir como comunidad nuestros logros en la misión.

        b) Salir de la rutina y ver claramente nuestro futuro, para luchar contra la parálisis de la esperanza, a tener fe en los seres humanos y crear una alegría comunitaria que nos ayudará a lograr la hermandad.

     c) Ayudarnos a cambiar nuestros corazones, mentes, almas y las estructuras de poder y crear un camino de luz y esperanza para los marginados.

GENERAL OBJETIVES OF THE CONFERENCE

-To bring Maryknoll Affiliates from the Chapters around the world to discuss the past, present, and future direction of the Maryknoll Affiliates. 

-To offer contributions to the making of decisions that the Maryknoll Affiliates Board will later process outside of the General Conference. 

SPECIFIC OBJETIVES OF THIS CONFERENCE

1. To promote a sense of unity in diversity that will enable us to find effective ways to unite the four entities of Maryknoll in our mission.

        a) Greater unity and sharing of Maryknoll spirituality.

        b) To be inclusive and broaden the circle among all the entities of Maryknoll

2.   To celebrate de 25th anniversary of the Maryknoll Affiliates.

        a) To share as community our accomplishmets in mission.

        b) To break with routine and see clearly our future so that we may struggle against the paralyzation of hope, to have faith in human beings, and to créate a comunal joy that will help us achieve brotherhood and sisterhood.

     c) To help us change our hearts, mind, souls, and power structures and to créate a path of light and hope with the disenfranchised.

¿Cuál será el tema?

El tema elegido será el Buen Vivir. Celebrar MAC17 en América Latina abre una oportunidad para dar a conocer una filosofía que encierra “Plenitud de la vida comunitaria en armonía con otras personas y el ambiente”.  El concepto de Buen Vivir es concebido en las regiones andinas como “sumak kawsay” (cultura Quechua, Bolivia), Sumak: realización ideal y belleza del planeta.  Kawsay: vida, dignidad, dignidad de vida, dignidad de la plenitud de la vida.  Sumak Kawsay considera a las personas como un elemento de la Pachamama o Madre Tierra. La Asamblea será un momento privilegiado para un intercambio intercultural abierto y respetuoso entre las cuatro entidades de Maryknoll y “otras personas” de diferentes culturas y visiones del mundo. Unir la espiritualidad Maryknoll y el regalo de la misión, el 25 aniversario, será una ocasión para que unamos nuestras manos, cambiemos nuestros corazones, mentes y almas para fortalecer nuestra misión a través del mensaje de amor y compasión de Dios hacia “otros”.

What will be the theme?

Our theme will be Buen Vivir.  Celebrating MAC 17 offers us the opportunity to share a philosophy that entails “The fullness of communal living in harmony with other people and the environment.”  The concept of Buen Vivir was conceived in the Andean regions as “Sumak Kawsay” (Quechua culture, Bolivia).  Sumak:  ideal realization and beauty of the planet.  Kawsay:  life, dignity, dignity of life, dignity of the fullness of life.  Sumak Kawsay regards people as an element of the Pachamama, or Mother Earth.  The assembly will  be a privileged moment for an open and respectful intercultural exchange among the four entities of Maryknoll and of people from other cultures and world visions.  In uniting Maryknoll spirituality and the gift of mission, the 25^th anniversary will be an occasion for us to join hands and change our hearts, minds, and souls to strengthen our mission through the message of the love and compassion of God toward “the other.”
